Mining Pumps

Mine dewatering pumps

Water in a pit, decline or underground roadway stops production. Aqua Energy Group designs, builds and commissions mine dewatering pumps that keep water moving. We supply everything from a single surface pump set to a fully automated, multi-pump system.

Our range covers surface, submersible and underground fishtank dewatering, in diesel and electric configurations. We size every system to your site’s flow, head, and water quality. Each meets Australian Standards for coal and hard rock mines.

Choosing the right dewatering method

The right method depends on where the water is, how far it has to travel and what it carries. We can recommend one, or combine several into a single mine dewatering system.

Standard dewatering pumpset range

Our standard dewatering pump sets cover the most common duty points, keeping lead times short. Where a standard set doesn’t fit, we engineer one that does.

Engineered as a complete dewatering system

A pump is only one part of a reliable dewatering system. We design and deliver the rest under one contract. That includes power supply, switchrooms and motor control centres (MCCs), variable speed drives (VSDs), pipework, valving and automation. Where there is no grid power, we design generator-powered or diesel-driven systems with fuel storage.

We then install and commission the system, and support it for its working life. Our electrical and mechanical engineers work under one roof, giving you a single point of accountability from design through commissioning and fewer on-site contractor interfaces.

The Range

Dewatering pumps for every part of the mine

Most mines need more than one dewatering type. We supply and integrate the full range, so one supplier is accountable for the whole system.

  • Pits, sumps and dams

    Surface dewatering pump packages

Surface dewatering pump packages move water out of pits, sumps, and storage dams for reuse or discharge. We build them on skids or trailers, with diesel or electric drive. Packages can include automated level control, so pumps start and stop without an operator on site. Our standardised range keeps delivery times short. Modular designs can then be customised to site-specific requirements, from clean water transfer to dirty water with suspended solids.

  • In the water

    Submersible dewatering pumps

Submersible dewatering pumps sit in the water, so they need no priming and work out of the way. They suit sumps, flooded workings, excavations and industrial sites. Their compact, low-weight design makes them easy to transport and install. Plug-in starters connect quickly on site, and motor protection guards against overheating. Interchangeable spare parts make servicing simpler across a fleet. For groundwater control through deep bores, see our borehole pumps.

  • Coal and hard rock

    Underground dewatering fishtanks

In underground mines, a fishtank is a compact pump station that collects water from sumps and development areas. It then transfers that water out-bye, or on to a seam-to-surface pump station. Aqua Energy Group designs and builds fishtanks in-house for both coal and hard rock mining. They are engineered for submersion, harsh conditions and a long service life. That reduces the time personnel spend maintaining pumps underground.

Frequently asked questions

What is mine dewatering?

Mine dewatering removes groundwater and surface water from pits, underground workings and storages so mining can continue safely. Most sites combine several methods, such as surface pump packages, submersible pumps, underground fishtanks and borehole pumps. Each is sized to the site's inflows, head and water quality.

Should I choose a diesel or electric dewatering pump?

Electric pumps suit sites with reliable power and long-term duty, and pair well with variable speed drives. Diesel pumps suit remote locations, temporary duty and standby use. Many mines run both. We size each package to the duty point, expected run hours, and available power.

What is a fishtank in underground mining?

A fishtank is a compact underground pump station. It collects water from sumps and development areas, then transfers it out-bye to another fishtank or a seam-to-surface pump station. Fishtanks let underground mines move water in stages over long distances.

What information do you need to size a dewatering pump?

We need the flow rate, total head (vertical lift plus pipeline losses), and suction conditions. Water quality matters too, including solids, abrasiveness and salinity. Tell us the power available and how long the pump will run. Photos and a site layout help us quote faster.

Can you supply just the pump, or the full system?

Both. We can supply a standard dewatering pump set off the shelf, or design and deliver a complete system. A complete system includes switchrooms, power, pipework, automation, installation and commissioning. Either way, one team is accountable from quote to handover.
